My name is Kaleigh Thompson and after years of wanting to start a blog, I finally made it to my first post!
After a significant amount of time of trying to decide what to write about, I realized I didn’t know enough about any one thing to share with others. So instead, I decided to lean into my lack of knowledge and write a blog themed on how to learn new skills!
As my husband and I come up to our 6 year wedding anniversary, I have spent a lot of time reflecting on some of the greatest joys and biggest challenges we have faced. And like many young couples, our most prominent and stressful times have all been because of one thing: money. Our most intense frustrations with each other and life have come from the stress of never feeling like we are ever going to make ends meet, let alone get ahead. We married young before either of us were finished with school and had our son less than a year after we got married. But we both decided that 2023 was the year we were going to turn things around. And what a better way to do that than to document it on the internet for the world to see! But alas, after a year of owning my domain name and having all the tools accessible to me, I found myself crippled with fear
And it seems like the opportune time to do so. As the United States has reached its debt threshold, inflation has made eggs a luxury item to purchase, and the fear of recession is on everyone’s minds, I have finally decided to take the leap and get my own finances under control while, hopefully, trying to help others do the same.
Ultimately, I decided to start this personal finance blog for two reasons:
First, I wanted to be held accountable for my own finances. Just like when I try to lose weight, I need someone who can keep me honest with my progress and help me stay focused on my goals. I figured my blog could work the same way. I want to share what I am learning about finances, share my mistakes and my triumphs, and create a community where we can share ideas and tips for personal finances with one another.
Second, I am taking the quote from George Bernard Shaw’s Man and Superman 1905 play “Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.” to heart as I begin this blog. I know next to nothing about savings, investments, or making and keeping financial goals. I hope to take you along as I learn these very important financial lessons and hope to teach everyone who may find themselves in a similar situation to mine!
